CORVALLIS, OR –– Perpetua today announced that its Chief Scientist, Dr. Ingo Stark, will be demonstrating a wearable thermoelectric generator armband system that utilizes body heat to power an on-body wireless sensor that reliably sends physiological data to a nearby base station. The demonstration is slated to take place during the Wireless Health 2001 conference in San Diego, CA, which runs from October 11 – 13.
“We are very focused on expanding our presence in the wireless health industry and are confident that energy harvesting will play an important role for body-worn wireless systems,” said Ingo. “Our wearable thermoelectric generator technology is on a clear path to commercialization and this opportunity to demonstrate a working, renewably powered system to the wireless health leadership community is a exciting step along the way.”
Wearable thermoelectric generator (WTEG) technology is a unique energy harvesting application currently being developed by Perpetua for powering low-power transceivers and physiological monitoring sensors using body heat as an always-available power source.
Integrated into wearable structures, such as an armband, clothing patch, or directly embedded into a low-power wireless monitoring device, WTEGs utilize heat from the body and convert it into electrical energy. WTEG technology can be used to renewably and reliably power on-body sensors that can wirelessly monitor an individual’s location or a specific physiological condition.
